WATCH: CEC’s Mike Simpson on how Canadian oil is getting cleaner

Canadian Energy Centre Executive Director of Operations Mike Simpson joined Taking Care of Business host Mario Toneguzzi to discuss new research that found Canada’s oil sector has made significant progress in producing a cleaner barrel of oil.

The Fact Sheet examines Environment and Climate Change Canada historical greenhouse gas emissions intensity numbers in the Canadian upstream oil sector, outlining over the last two decades how the oil sector is becoming cleaner on an emissions per barrel basis. Since 2000, GHG emissions intensity of the oil sands subsector declined by nearly 23 per cent, while in the conventional oil subsector emissions dropped by more than 32 per cent over the same period, the research found.
